Dial-A-Ride and FLEX Service

What is Dial-A-Ride?

Dial-A-Ride is a curb-to-curb transit service open to the general public who live in municipalities that participate in the program. Hours of operation are 8:15 am thru 4:15 pm Monday through Friday.

 

Who is Eligible for Dial-A-Ride?

One must be a resident of and have a trip origin in one of the following communities:
Towns of East Fishkill, Fishkill, Hyde Park, Poughkeepsie, Wappinger, or the City of Poughkeepsie.

 

Where does Dial-A-Ride operate?

Dial-A-Ride service operates in the Towns of East Fishkill, Fishkill, Hyde Park, Poughkeepsie, Wappinger, the City of Poughkeepsie, and other locations according to schedule (please see Dial-A-Ride schedule below).

 

What is the fare for Dial-A-Ride?

One Way Full Fare - $3.50

One Way Reduced Fare - $1.00 (available to Seniors over 60 and Veterans)

What is Flex Service?

Flex is a curb-to-curb transportation service open to the general public that operates between the hours of 8:15 am and 4:45 pm Monday through Friday.

 

Who is Eligible for Flex Service?

Residents of Dutchess County who require transportation within Dutchess County. Reservations are on a first come first served basis.

 

Where does Flex Service operate?

All municipalities within Dutchess County are served.

 

What is the fare for Flex?

One Way Trip in the same town - $5.00

One Way Trip to a different town - $6.00

Reservations for Dial-A-Ride and Flex Service

  • Passengers should plan activities so that reservations may be made ahead of time.
  • When schedule allows, bus operators will make scheduled additional stops and/or trips within a municipality, however each additional stop will constitute a new fare.
  • Passengers must call for reservations at (845) 473-8424 as early as possible when in need of transit services.  Call-center representatives will accept reservations between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance and no later than 3 days before the desired date of service. You must have an approved registration on file before making a reservation.   
  • Same day reservations are allowed within the City of Poughkeepsie for $7.00 on a space-available basis.
  • To cancel a reservation, please call (845) 473-8424 at least 24 hours before the scheduled trip.  Late cancellations will require payment for the missed trip and will be tracked for sanction following the “Late Cancellation Sanction Policy”. 
  • When scheduling a ride, passengers must inform the dispatcher of exact locations (addresses) of where they are going, including any additional stops. 
  • The bus operator must adhere to the schedule from dispatch which cannot be changed on the day of service.
  • Passengers are limited to a maximum of four (4) shopping bags or parcels, with a maximum weight of 25 lbs. per bag.  Bags must be stored under the passenger seat or on the floor in front of the passenger seat.  No packages may be on the seat or in the aisle at any time during the trip. 
  • Bus operators may assist passengers in carrying packages on and off the bus at the destination upon request, but the bus operator may not leave the bus unattended.
  • Passengers must ask for help if assistance is needed to board or disembark a vehicle. 
  • In inclement weather, passengers may wait inside their homes until 10 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time so that the dispatcher may call if there will be a delay.
  • Passengers should allow 15-minute (before and after) leeway in scheduled pick-up time.  Be ready 15 minutes prior to but be prepared to wait 15 minutes longer than the scheduled pick-up time.
  • Passengers are asked to be patient, as bus operators may be delayed due to road conditions.
  • Passengers must place fares in the fare box on their own.  Those who are unable to do so may receive assistance from bus operators upon request.  Bus operators are not permitted to make change or accept tips or gifts of any kind.
  • Passengers who wish to express a concern may ask to speak to a supervisor at (845) 473-8424, or the Director of Public Transit at (845) 473-8665.  Suggestions are welcome and may also be directed at a supervisor, or the Director of Public Transit.
