County Secures Additional Parking for Popular Dutchess Rail Trail
More than 100 parking spots to be available in East Fishkill
Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus has announced the county has closed on the purchase of property to provide approximately 120 parking spots with direct access to the Dutchess Rail Trail in East Fishkill. The parking lot will be located on Van Wyck Lane in the Town of East Fishkill, just south of the Dutchess Rail Trail bridge crossing over Route 376 and is expected to be open by this fall.
County Executive Steinhaus noted, “We’re very pleased the popularity of the Dutchess Rail Trail (DRT) has soared since the connection of more than 8 miles of trail from LaGrange, through Wappinger to East Fishkill this past spring. Thousands of families have enjoyed the trail and continue to share positive feedback about their DRT experience. One of the most common questions about the Dutchess Rail Trail has been “Where can I park to access the trail?”
“Since the inception of planning for the Dutchess Rail Trail, we have worked aggressively to find locations for safe and accessible parking along the Dutchess Rail Trail for trail users. We are pleased we are now able to add this convenient East Fishkill location to our Dutchess Rail Trail parking options,” said County Executive Steinhaus.
“Although the new parking lot is in East Fishkill, it closely borders the town of Wappinger with easy access from Route 376 and Lake Walton Road as well as the Myers Corners Road area. The parking lot is expected to have up to 120 parking spots including designated handicapped parking. There will be direct trail access from the parking lot right onto the Dutchess Rail Trail,” said Steinhaus.
County public works staff will handle the construction of the parking lot. Work on the lot is expected to begin within the next few weeks, with completion slated in early fall.
This new parking lot will be in addition the Dutchess Rail Trail parking areas currently available including:
“Our goal is for people to have a positive experience out on the Dutchess Rail Trail, enjoying time with family and friends while taking advantage of the great outdoors. This new parking lot will help enhance that experience even more with convenient, accessible trail parking,” concluded County Executive Steinhaus.
