Capacity Crowd Dances the Day Away
Annual Dutchess County Senior Prom

More than 400 senior citizens packed the dance floor today at the Dutchess County Division of Aging Services’s 12th annual Dutchess County Senior Prom at the Villa Borghese in the Town of Wappinger.  County Executive Steinhaus crowned two Dutchess County residents as the new reigning “Duke & Duchess of the Prom.”

County Executive Steinhaus said, “Socialization and exercise are two of the most beneficial factors to healthy aging.  We started our annual Senior Prom twelve years ago as way for seniors to celebrate and combine those two concepts at one great party.   It is such a pleasure to see so many people out on the dance floor having a great time.”

The Senior Prom featured live music from Bob Martinson and the R. C. and Company Band, lunch, dancing, door prizes and cakes donated by local businesses.  The highlight of the event was the crowning of the 2007 Duke and Duchess of the Senior Prom by Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus.

Rudy and Carminia Banaras of the Town of Poughkeepsie were crowned the 2007 Duke and Duchess of the Senior Prom.    Mr. & Mrs. Banaras, who have been married 37 years, were selected by the Senior Prom Committee for their enthusiasm and energy out on the dance floor.

Dutchess County Division of Aging Services Director John Beale served as Master of Ceremonies and noted prom attendance was up more than 25% this year.  “It is obvious how much our seniors enjoy these types of events.   So many of them are healthy and active and look forward to getting out and having a great time.   We are very pleased to be able to host this annual event for the seniors of Dutchess County,” said Beale.

“Getting all dressed up, going out and having a great time, being with friends and loved ones … what a great way to spend an afternoon in Dutchess County.,” concluded County Executive Steinhaus.

Eden Park Health Care Center was the co-sponsor of the 2007 Senior Prom.
